As the Asia and the Pacific Regional Bureau for Education, UNESCO Bangkok promotes programmes and coordinates responses in order to achieve the goals related to social, cultural, technological and educational development.  
Through the UNESCO's website a large amount of pages and media resources are being provided to UNESCO professionals and local area institutions in a very cost-effective, detailed and comprehensive modality.
www.unescobkk.org has become a precious tool, a powerful communication medium for the development and integration of ICT in different aspects of the social and cultural development of the South-East Pacific region.

Project

The sharing of knowledge and information through the web has been made possible also by the use of open source cms TYPO3. The whole staff of web editors and administrators edit more than 6,000 pages in which UNESCO actions and projects are explained, described and made clear.
We designed a training session about the use of TYPO3 new functionalities in order to allow web editors and administrators to extend their knowledge about TYPO3 and to let them manage different kinds of web contents.
To IT managers we reserved a special session in which TYPO3 extensions management and implementation have been analyzed and discussed.

Solution

The huge quantity of contents edited and communicated through this website requires a reliable and flexible content management solution and TYPO3 fulfils perfectly this fundamental requirement.
Among the greatest benefits of using this open source CMS, there is also its potential customizability, its flexibility and easiness of use which allows differently skilled editors to keep content updated.
The training experience has been divided into 5 sessions in which some specific topics were discussed according to the particular needs af UNESCO web staff:

  • Versioning, Workspace to improve effective web content editing among different groups of users that learnt also how to use TYPO3 Workflow functionalities.
  • Newsletter, Blog, News management and multimedia extensions, to update and edit the contents dedicated to advanced web communication.
  • UTF-8 configuration, Real URL, DBAL (MSSQL integration), TYPO3 Back-end over SSL were topics dedicated to web site developers and administrators who knew about TYPO3 customisation in a more extensively way.
